The NNW 2026 theme calls for a whole-of-society approach to creating healthier food environments across homes, early childhood development centres, schools, workplaces and communities. It encourages collaboration across government, civil society, the private sector and communities to improve access to healthy foods, support local food systems, promote healthier food choices and strengthen food security.
This whole-of-society approach supports the implementation of the Strategy for the Prevention and Management of Obesity in South Africa and complements the National Food and Nutrition Security Plan and the National Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Control of NCDs. It also reinforces other key public health nutrition policies and legislation that promote healthier diets, improve food security, and reduce malnutrition and diet-related NCDs.
